Editorial

Texas recently enacted legislation that will allow anyone to buy and carry a gun!
California should do the same thing, but with a few provisos:
—— Those applying to carry a gun should first pass a background check;
—— Those applying to carry a gun should get a week of free training on a gun range
to prove they can shoot straight;
—— They should be mentally stable.
With that in mind, just imagine how nice it would have been if some of the victims of mass shootings were armed. There would have been no mass shootings, since the
perp would have been killed quickly, except for two or three notable exceptions (like Las Vegas). Just think, rather than hundreds being killed, only a few dozen would
have died.
In closing, let me say this, which I have said many times in this forum; the police will not, repeat not, be there to protect you from a criminal. They will appear later
on, after you are dead or in the hospital, and write their reports. To all of those who object to the foregoing, I say this; you are volunteering to become a victim, since
criminals will nearly always be armed.

Who was it that said that “an ARMED society is a POLITE society”???
Don’t hold me to this, but it seems to be attributed to Robert A. Heinlein. I believe that it is one of the quotations of his character Lazarus Long.
The full quotation is “An armed society is a polite society. Manners are good when one may have to back up his acts with his life.”
