In support of the “preparedness” theme, cialis the City of Simi Valley Office of Emergency Services is offering the third and final Community Emergency simi.valley.brush.fireResponse Training (CERT) Academy for 2015.

CERT is a community based training curriculum, federally recognized and taught by first responders (Ventura County Fire Department personnel). The training is presented in a comprehensive program format that details ways for students to assist family, friends, neighbors, co-workers and community in small or large scale disasters and emergencies like the brush fire that occurred on Friday in the Wood Ranch area (#RusticFire). The training is FREE and open to anyone that lives or works in Simi Valley, over the age of 18.

Students will learn how to prepare for emergencies and be ready to assist others immediately following incidents of all types. CERT curriculum is comprised of: Disaster Preparedness; Fire Safety; Light Search & Rescue; Team Organization; Disaster Medical Operations; Terrorism; and Disaster Psychology.

The CERT Academy occurs over six 3-hour sessions and one 8-hour final session for a total of seven class meeting dates. Participation in all seven sessions is required for graduation privileges. Everyone is encouraged to bring a good attitude, enthusiasm and willingness to learn in this academy. Students will receive a training manual and upon completion of the academy they will be given a CERT start-up kit containing a helmet, gloves, headlamp, eye protection, and whistle.

The fall CERT Academy will begin on Thursday, September 10th. Students will attend seven (7) classes total, each held one night per week. The final class occurs on Saturday, October 17th and includes a disaster simulation to sum up all the skills and information learned during the academy. To register for this training academy, a completed enrollment application must be submitted no later than Friday, September 4, 2015.
