Community – Simi Valley: After Action Report for National Take-Back Initiative Prescription Drug Drop-Off Event

The Simi Valley Police Department participated in the DEA National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day on Saturday, April 29, 2017, from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Approximately 106 cars drove through the Police Station parking lot to participate in this very successful event. Department employees, Volunteers, and Explorers collected over 234 pounds of unwanted medications.

This event marked the Simi Valley Police Department’s 6th anniversary providing this important drug prevention program. Events such as these are another way the Simi Valley Police Department is working in a collaborative effort with the public to remove unwanted medications from the streets before they fall into the hands of people who will possibly abuse them.

As a reminder:

• A prescription drug drop-off box is located in the front lobby of the Police Station, 3901 Alamo Street, and is accessible to the public 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

• Drugs should be removed from the original containers and placed into a clear baggie prior to being dropped into the disposal receptacle.

• Sharps such as needles, syringes, and any other items used for diabetic tests are not accepted. Sharps disposal containers are available for free at Sierra Vista Family Medical Center, 1227 E. Los Angeles Avenue, Simi Valley, CA 93065.
