viagra arial, drug sans-serif;”>Cool Britannia presents a surprise concert, physician Shakespeare and the Beatles, a fun mashup of Shakespeare’s most beloved scenes paired with Beatles music and directed by Allen Hunt. Performances are Saturday, October 24 at 8:00pm and Sunday, October 25 at 3:00pm at the Hillcrest Center for the Arts 403 W. Hillcrest Dr. in Thousand Oaks. This is part of a series of readings staged at the Hillcrest Center this summer, which began with Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland in early August and continued with Jeeves Intervenes in September. During each performance the actors hold scripts while acting out the play with limited costumes and props.

Shakespeare and the Beatles includes Beatles’ songs Yesterday, Girl and With a Little Help from My Friends interwoven with dialogue from 38 of Shakespeare’s plays. This musical revue, narrated by Allison Chase Williams, features a scene or monologue from one of Shakespeare’s tragedies, comedies and histories. Each piece is followed with a Beatles song performed by the same actors, that parellels the spirit and sentiment of the Bard’s written word. Director Allen Hunt hopes that the chosen songs help to demonstrate the timelessness of Shakespeare’s writings and how, “Some five hundred years later the issues of men, women, love, hate and jealousy, remain curiously the same.”

Continues Hunt, “Our efforts remain wholly respectful of William Shakespeare and his legacy as the greatest writer in the English Language. This fun and unexpected comparison with artists and poets of today – who still find ways to express similar thoughts and emotions – is fascinating. We hope our audiences will find it so.”

The production is recommended for all audiences; however, those studying Shakespeare will particularly enjoy the way this production creates and familiar and accessible introduction to The Bard.
