“Corner Pocket” billiard parlor to open in Oxnard

By George Miller

“The Corner Pocket,” a new billiard parlor, will open in the next couple of weeks in beautiful downtown Oxnard, at 658 South A St. It will offer billiards, arcade, lounge, restaurant and sports bar the whole family can enjoy. We were told that it will have workout facilities upstairs on the mezzanine. We also saw some video games when we visited on Tuesday to check it out, amid construction activities.

The entrepreneurial Garcia family, which also owns El Miramar next door, has been working on the facility for about a year. It looks like a labor of love. One of the owners, Fernando Garcia, told us that he is an ex-US Army boxer, who has worked at the Boys and Girls Club as a boxing trainer. He says he will also do training upstairs at the new facility.  Garcia is committed to helping to steer troubled youths to a better course in life. He confirmed that there will be a video arcade as well.

Mr. Garcia informed us that there will be a “soft opening” in a couple of weeks, with a big, formal Grand Opening to be on The Day of The Dead- November 2, 2014. When we asked him if there would be costumes, he said, yes, and entertainment, too. Watch for the announcement.

Decor and quality of workmanship looked good. The stylish red/black decor is distinctive. (below)
