County Board of Supervisors Appoints Tiffany N. North as County Counsel

Ventura, CA – The County Board of Supervisors has unanimously appointed Tiffany N. North as the new County Counsel after a nationwide recruitment.

“Tiffany is a strong generalist legal professional with excellent communication skills who is well-versed in public law with experience in advising a large public agency,” said Board Chair Linda Parks. “Her proven track record providing practical legal advice on a range of topics will serve our County well. We look forward to continuing the collaboration and teamwork with our County Counsel’s office that have been key factors in providing the best public service to our community.”

Tiffany has served the County of Riverside, a County twice the size of Ventura County, for more than 15 years where she currently is the Assistant County Counsel. The County of Riverside has 21,000 employees, 2.3 million residents and 40 departments.  She helps to lead 84 deputy attorneys and staff in four offices throughout the County with an annual departmental budget of approximately $16 million.

“I am extremely honored to serve as Ventura County’s next County Counsel and thank the Board of Supervisors for its trust in me. I look forward to working collaboratively with the Board and in partnership with the County Executive Office, County agencies and County Counsel team to advance the County’s priorities and policy goals,” said Tiffany.

Tiffany earned her Juris Doctorate from the University of San Diego in 2003 and her Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of California, Riverside in 1998. She has exceptional leadership skills and is known not only for her professional expertise but also her ability to collaborate and build trusting relationships.

The County Counsel’s Office has three divisions, 37 employees and a FY 20-21 budget of $4.4 million. The County Counsel is a County Officer appointed by the Board of Supervisors to serve a four-year term of office and is responsible to the Board of Supervisors and the public for the performance of statutory duties. The chief legal advisor on civil matters to the Board of Supervisors, County Executive Office, and to all County agencies and departments, the County Counsel handles the defense and prosecution of all civil litigation. The County Counsel is also the legal advisor to several County-related independent agencies, to all special districts of which the Board of Supervisors is the governing body, and to all other special districts to which the office is obligated to provide legal services. The County Counsel also represents Children and Family Services in juvenile dependency trials and appeals and the Public Guardian in conservatorship hearings and trials.
