County Inmate recaptured after escaping from VC Medical Center

Ventura County Sheriff – Incident Press Release

On 12-30-2017, at approximately 9:30 AM, Inmate 34 year old Ventura resident,  Sarah Murphy McComack displayed symptoms of a medical emergency while incarcerated at the Sheriff’s Todd Road jail facility. Jail medical personnel were immediately on scene and administered medical aid. Personnel from Ventura County Fire and AMR Ambulance responded to the jail and Murphy McComack was transported to the Ventura County Medical Center for additional medical treatment. A uniformed Sheriff’s Deputy was sent to the hospital to provide security while Murphy McComack was there for treatment.

At approximately 10:45 AM, The Sheriff’s Deputy arrived at the hospital and discovered that Murphy McComack had asked to use the restroom and had then walked away from the emergency room area of the hospital and was missing. Ventura Police were immediately notified and assisted with the search for Murphy McComack. At about 11:07 AM, Ventura police officers located Murphy McComack nearby the hospital and immediately arrested her without incident.

Murphy McComack, a Ventura area resident, is an unsentenced inmate who has been in custody since December 27, 2017, for the charges of grand theft, possession of burglar tools, and providing false identification to officers. Her bail was originally set at $50,000.

The investigation into this incident is continuing. Murphy McComack now faces additional charges of escape from custody.
