Ventura, CA – The County of Ventura Board of Supervisors has appointed Michael Walker to serve as Acting County Counsel effective October 11, 2020. Walker has served in the County Counsel office for thirteen years including the last ten years as the Chief Assistant County Counsel.
“The County Counsel’s office will be in good hands with Michael Walker as the Acting County Counsel,” said Leroy Smith.
Walker succeeds Leroy Smith who is retiring after 30 years of public service.
“Leroy Smith has provided outstanding counsel and leadership to the County and he will be greatly missed. We appreciate having someone as capable and as experienced as Michael to continue serving our County as the Acting County Counsel,” said Michael Powers, County Executive Officer.
Walker earned his Juris Doctorate from Pepperdine School of Law in 1990. He was in private practice for seventeen years before joining the County of Ventura in 2007. He has been known for tackling some of the most difficult and highest exposure cases, demonstrating superior research and writing skills in litigation matters.
The Board of Supervisors has elected to open a nationwide recruitment for the position. The recruitment is planned to begin in November.
