    County of Ventura COVID-19 Update – August 24, 2020

    Here is your weekly COVID-19 update with data from Friday, Saturday and Sunday. There are 368 new cases today (54 (14.7%) of which have a lab collection from August 17th or earlier), 3,883 additional people tested, and 1 additional death (33 year old female with comorbidity). Current doubling time is 91.4 days.

    Total, there have been 103 deaths age range 29-107 years; 63 males and 40 females; 46 Non-Hispanic White, 46 Hispanic, 8 Non-Hispanic Asian, 1 Non-Hispanic Black, 1 Non-Hispanic American Indian or Alaskan Native and 1 Non-Hispanic Other. For more information about deaths in CA due to COVID, please visit the following link: California Department of Public Health Information.

    Of the 10,063 updated count of total positive cases: 705 (7.0%) have ever been hospitalized. Of the 705, 366 (51.9%) have had comorbidities, 253 (35.9%) unknown, pending case investigation, and 86 (12.2%) with no comorbidities. Of those who have been hospitalized, 180 (25.5%) have ever been in the ICU. Current hospitalizations are 76 (not including LTC residents) and current ICU is 25. There have 145,642 people tested; 6.9% (10,063) of the 145,642 people tested have been positive.

    Please continue to wear masks, social distance and only gather with members of your household. As Labor Day Weekend approaches in September, it’s very important to plan to only gather with those that you live with during this time. COVID spreads at gatherings.

    As Labor Day approaches, in a couple of weeks, please don’t make plans to gather with others. BBQ’s and parties are a usual tradition on holiday weekends but it’s important that we fight COVID together by not gathering.

    These steps are challenging and inconvenient but they can make a big difference in bringing down our numbers and saving lives.Please only gather with members of your household. Please wear masks in public places and practice social distancing.
