Setting Brushfires of Freedom by Don Jans

Crews make quick work of Another Brush Fire in the Ventura River Bed

On October 25th at 2:20 PM, Ventura City Fire Department was dispatched to multiple reports of a fire burning in the Ventura River bed south of the 101 freeway. Upon arrival firefighters found several spot fires being pushed by winds and rapidly spreading in 30’ vegetation. The fire was eventually controlled with fire crews and water dropping helicopters. The Ventura County Fair Grounds, Cal Trans yard and a railroad trestle were threatened as embers rained down igniting several palm trees and vegetation at those locations. No structures were lost as a result of this incident.

The size of the fire was determined to be 7.5 acres. The cause of the fire was suspicious and remains under investigation.
