Crews quickly extinguish two fires in Ventura

Two fires were quickly extinguished by crews in Ventura.  One started on a vacant on the 3000 block of E. Main Street shortly after 1:30 this afternoon.  When crews arrived they found a large pile of burning refuse.  Ventura Police on the scene detained two reported vagrants. The fire was extinguished before it could extend into adjacent vegetation and potentially threaten nearby structures. Police issued citations to the two individuals present.


Nopalito Street

Later in the afternoon around 3:30pm another fire was reported in a vacant lot on the 10500 Block of Nopalito Street.    Fire crews responded to a reported structure fire. The first arriving unit found a plastic refuse container on fire, extending to adjacent vegetation. The fire was quickly extinguished eliminating any threat to nearby structures. The cause of the fire was determined to be placement of hot charcoal briquettes into the container.
