Criminal charges filed against Oxnard suspect in officer involved shooting

Criminal charges filed against Juan Palacios Soto (DOB 12/27/60) of Oxnard. Soto is charged with two felony counts of exhibiting a deadly weapon to prevent detention or arrest, vialis 40mg two felony counts of resisting a police officer from performing his or her duties with use of a knife, one felony count of elder abuse with use of a knife, and one felony count of criminal threats with use of a knife.

Soto was arraigned today on the charges and pleaded not guilty. An early disposition conference was set for March 1, 2016, in courtroom 12 at 1:30 p.m. A preliminary hearing was also set for March 3, 2016. Soto remains in custody with his bail set at $500,000.00.

The charges stem from an incident on Tuesday, February 16, 2016, in the city of Oxnard, resulting in Soto being shot by an Oxnard police officer. Based on the filing of these criminal charges against Soto, the District Attorney’s Office will not conduct a separate officer-involved shooting investigation because there is substantial reason to believe the officer acted lawfully while performing his duties.
