D.A. will not seek death penalty in Jake Bush murder case

District Attorney Gregory D. Totten announced today that he will not seek the death penalty against Marco Casillas. On July 2, 2014, 38 year old Casillas, of Port Hueneme, was indicted by the grand jury  for the murder of 16-year-old James “Jake” Bush on June 24, 1997, during the commission of a burglary in Jake’ s home.

On August 8, 2014, Casillas was arraigned and pled not guilty to the charge of murder with the use of a knife and the special circumstance that the murder was committed while engaged in the commission of a burglary. A pretrial conference is scheduled for December 4, 2014, at 1:30 p.m. in courtroom 12.

Casillas is currently being held without bail.
