    Delivering Renewable Gas to Customers

On Dec. 17, the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) voted to approve SoCalGas and SDG&E’s voluntary Renewable Natural Gas Tariff.  We are excited that we will be able to support the state’s climate goals by delivering renewable gas to customers who opt into the program.  We plan to begin signing up customers in Q2 2021.

You may remember that SoCalGas set a goal to deliver 5% renewable natural gas (RNG), produced from organic waste, to our core customers by 2022 and 20% by 2030.  The approval of this tariff will help us achieve those goals.

I wanted to share our statement on the tariff’s approval, it can be found at this link.  We also launched a short video that explains what RNG is.  Please feel free to share.

And we have many other exciting clean energy projects on the horizon for 2021 and beyond. Last month we announced a hydrogen blending demonstration program – the first in California and among the first in the nation.  More recently we shared that we will build a state-of-the-art demonstration project to show the role hydrogen could play in attaining California’s goal of achieving carbon neutrality – our H2 Hydrogen Home.

SoCalGas is building California’s 21st century energy system with investments in hydrogen, RNG, fuel cells and carbon capture and storage. These innovations will help us decarbonize our pipeline system and help California meet its climate goals.
