Donald Trump On the Issues

By Glenn E. Turner

Political commentators have no right to complain that Trump has not laid out his positions on current events. On the contrary, in Trump’s 2011 book, Time To Get Tough: Making America #1 Again (Regnery), he explained what he would do if he were President, and his reasoning.
Trump sums up his basic economic philosophy on page 156: “…our free market capitalist system has created more wealth and prosperity than any government-controlled economy could ever dream of doing.” And, “The next president must understand that America’s business is business.” (p.8)
Here are some quotes with specific recommendations on current hot topics.

Trump on tax reform “…we need to enact my five-part tax policy: kill the death tax, lower the tax rates on capital gains and dividends, eliminate corporate taxes in order to create more American jobs, mandate a 15 percent tax for outsourcing jobs and a 20 percent tax for importing goods, and enact the 1-5-10-15 income tax plan.” (p. 65)

Trump on OPEC: “…make sure Congress passes and the president signs the ‘No Oil Producing and Exporting Cartels Act’ (NOPEC, S.394, Senator Chuck Grassley), which will amend the Sherman Antitrust Act and make it illegal for any foreign governments to act collectively to limit production or set prices.”

Trump on the military: “Iran’s nuclear program must be stopped—by any and all means necessary.” (p. 98)

Trump recommends that everyone read Adam Smith’s classic books, Wealth of Nations and Theory of Moral Sentiments, which explain free market economics.
I have them on my reading list.

Question for Mr. Trump: Please explain to me the difference between the function of Government and the Business community.

( I was taught that the function of government is by collecting taxes, the government provides the people with services and safety, such a the military, the police, firefighters, roads and highways, parks and museums, libraries, great infrastructure, education and safety-nets for the disabled, the elderly and the less fortunate.)
