Phoenix—“The fundamental problem with the immigration system is that it serves wealthy donors, politicians and special interests,” said Republican presidential nominee Donald J. Trump in a major policy speech given at the Phoenix Convention Center Wednesday evening.

Earlier in the day, Trump met with Mexico’s President Enrique Pena Nieto in Mexico City where he reaffirmed that “both sovereign countries” have a right to build a wall along their joint border. “We agreed on the importance of ending the illegal flow of drugs, guns and people across our border and to put the cartels out of business,” said Trump.

According to former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, “we witnessed history being made today” while  Alabama Senator Jeff Sessions called this election “the last chance to restore a lawful system of immigration.”   Both spoke prior to Trump’s appearance on stage in Arizona.  Also speaking was vice presidential nominee Mike Pence who praised Donald Trump for “putting at the center of our national debate” the prospects of “ending illegal immigration once and for all.”

Prior to announcing his 10 immigration points, Trump outlined the immigration positions of President Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton.  They support:

  • sanctuary cities
  • catch and release
  • visa overstays
  • release of dangerous criminals
  • unconstitutional amnesty

Trump then outlined his 10 immigration points:

  • We will build a great wall along the southern border.

“Mexico will pay for the wall.   This beautiful southern border wall will use the best technology above and below ground sensors with towers and aerial surveillance.”

Event Video:

  • We are going to end catch and release.

“Illegals crossing the border will be detained until they are removed from our country.   We will then take them back to their country and not just across the border but a great distance away from our borders.”

  • There will be zero tolerance for criminal aliens.

“According to government data, there are at least two million criminal aliens inside our country.  We will move them out in a joint operation with local, state and federal law enforcement.  We will terminate the Obama administration’s non-enforcement policies allowing criminals to roam our streets and do what every they want to do.  Since 2013, the Obama administration has released 300,000 criminal aliens back into our communities.  We will remove those criminal aliens immediately and restore the security of our communities.  We are going to triple the number of deportation offices and hire 5,000 more border patrol agents.”

  • We will block funding for sanctuary cities.

“We will end sanctuary cities.”

  • We will cancel unconstitutional executive orders and enforce all immigration laws.

“We are gong to terminate President Obama’s executive action to give five million immigrants amnesty.  In a Trump administration all immigration laws will be enforced.  ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) and the Border Patrol will be able to do their jobs.  We will remove criminals.  We will not let our public welfare system be strained. “

  • We are going to suspend the issuance of visas where adequate screening cannot occur.

“I call it extreme vetting.   We will suspend immigration from Syria and Libya.   We are going to stop the tens of thousands of people coming from Syria.   We are going to help displaced refugees resettle in safe zones in their own countries.  We will have new screening tests for all applicants.  We will have an ideological certification. We are going to ask them about honor killings, about women and gays.”

  • We will ensure that other countries take their people back we order them deported.

“Do you know that 23 countries refuse to take back their citizens so we let them stay here.  The Boston Globe reported that from 2008 o 2014, 13,000 criminals were released in America because their home countries would not take them back.”

  • We will establish a biometric entry/exit visa tracking system.

“Half of illegal immigrants came here on temporary visas.  Last year, nearly half a million illegal immigrants overstayed their visas.”

  • We will turn off the jobs and benefits magnet.

“We will enforce illegal immigration laws.  Do you know that 62 percent of illegal immigrant households use some form of welfare?”

  • We will remove illegal immigrants to serve the best interest of American workers.

“We wish to ensure assimilation, integration and upward mobility.”

At the conclusion of his 10 immigration points, Trump introduced Angel Moms—the parents of children killed by illegal immigrants.

“Now is the time for these voices to be heard,” said Trump.  “Now is the time for media to ask questions on their behalf.  Now is the time for all of us as one country to band together to deliver justice, security and safety for all Americans.

“Let’s fix this horrible problem.  It can be fixed.  Let’s secure our border.  Let stop the drugs and crime.  Let’s protect our Social Security and Medicare system.  Let’s get unemployed Americans off welfare and back to work in their own country.

“This is an incredible movement.  The world is talking about it.  Together we can save America.  Join me in this mission.  We’re going to make America great again!”

Who is the “We” that Drumpf refers to in all these points? He and a do nothing Congress? I doubt that Drumpf is making any significant changes to what is happening under the Obama administration.

What I really find amusing about the speech was that early on, Drumpf said to the people attending that this was not going to be a “rally” speech. Then he proceeded to inflame the attendees by delivering ANOTHER RALLY SPEECH.
