Dreams of Autumn

By Debra Tash

Autumn has always been my favorite time of year. My husband says that it’s because I like to see landscaping wither and die.  But, really, it’s engrained us, this primal reset, when the seasons shift.  Perhaps they don’t shift here as visibly, and even more so with the prolonged drought, but they do shift.  The cast of the sunlight, the lengthening shadows, the lessening of day, the feel that this little bit of ground we inhabit in the universe is settling in for the long winter nights ahead.

A dear friend of mine, Tom Baldwin, shared some of his photos with Citizens Journal.  He wrote about how, with just an ordinary camera, he captured the breath and beauty of autumn, something we in this part of California can only dream about.  Tom is a native son and used to live in Moorpark, but life and family took him far afield of that Southern California hamlet.  He now lives in Cedar City Utah.  He’s given me permission to share some more of his photos.  So come with me and let’s dream of Autumn.
