drugs times; font-size: 16px;”>Last weekend, May 10th and 11th, the normal supply of water from Calleguas Water District, a water wholesaler, was shut off. This would have affected Moorpark, Thousand Oaks, Camarillo and Simi Valley. Fortunately Calleguas had the much maligned well field (underground) storage to draw on. (see Citizen’s Journal article: Moorpark Council Meeting–Calleguas General Manager Mulligan takes issue with AP article on underground water storage
No one noticed the least bit of disruption while toasting mom this past Sunday thanks to the reserves being pumped out of the well field along Grimes Canyon Road.
Susan Mulligan, General Manager Calleguas
The normal supply from Metropolitan Water (the agency Calleguas buys its water from) was shut off to adjust the flow of water through the Jensen Filtration Plant. The ever resourceful, Susan Mulligan, Calleguas’ current General Manager, struck a deal with Los Angeles Department of Water and Power. Now 20% of our supply during the severe drought will be coming from the Colorado River Basin. This helps make up for the loss from the State Project. Governor Brown reduced allotments due to drought conditions. Even though Lake Powell and Lake Mead are at half capacity they still have more than enough water to accommodate the amount sent to Calleguas. The District hasn’t received any supply from the Colorado River since the 1994 Northridge earthquake. The water will be going through a 60 year old, 96 inch reenforced concrete pipe running under the Santa Susanna Mountains.
For now the taps will still be flowing on this east side of the county thanks to the work of Susan Mulligan and her team.
