    0

No Tricks, Just Treats: animal shows, costume parade, costume prizes, and treats for kids!

America’s Teaching Zoo at Moorpark College will host the annual “Boo at the Zoo” event on Oct. 28 and 29 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The entry fee is $8 for adults and $6 for children ages 3-12; children under the age of 2 enter for free.

To accommodate zoo-goers of all ages, the event will offer multiple activities – animal shows, costume contests, a parade, face painting, and games among some of the fun activities to be experienced. Along with yummy snacks and not-so-spooky decorations throughout the zoo, children who arrive in costume will receive a zoo BINGO card that will grant a bag o’ treats from the kids’ fun zone when all squares are filled.

“We have found that our guests are looking for a family-friendly Halloween event and we have a great one!” says Kris Romero, Zoo Operations Assistant. “Each year we have more and more local families discover this gem of a zoo in their own backyard.”

“Boo at the Zoo” is a great opportunity for guests to get a close-up look at over 100 animals cared for at the zoo. The animal shows occur at noon and 2 p.m. Carnivore demonstrations and feedings begin at 3:30 p.m. For an extra $7 per person guests can get the behind the scenes tour which reveals back areas and allows for some animal interaction; these tours occur at 12:45 p.m. and 2:45 p.m. and are limited to 15 guests.

America’s Teaching Zoo is the only zoo in Ventura County and is the home of the Exotic Animal Training and Management (EATM) program started in 1971. The EATM program offers preparation for those interested in entering the expanding animal care industry. Students study zoo keeping, basic medical care, wildlife education, and training using positive methods.

Visit America’s Teaching Zoo at Moorpark College on weekends throughout the year from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The zoo is located at 7075 Campus Road, Moorpark, CA, 93021.  For additional information, please call Kris Romero at 805-378-1569.
