THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – The Arts Council of the Conejo Valley presents the nature-inspired exhibit THE GREAT OUTDOORS with art pieces from eight artists.  The show will hang August 23 through October 21, 2019 at the Hillcrest Galleria in the Hillcrest Center for the Arts, located at 403 W. Hillcrest Dr. in Thousand Oaks.  There will be an Artists’ Reception on Saturday, September 21, 2019 from 4 – 6 pm at the Galleria.

Eight outstanding artists will be exhibiting their nature oriented works in various art mediums including pastels, photography, oils, acrylics, and watercolor.  The artists include five from the Conejo Valley, Harvey CusworthRob ImpellizerriBob NorgelBarb Welch and Rachel Sylvers; alongside regional artists JoAnn FormiaTom Gamache and Laura Wambsgans.  Curators are John Johnson and Connie Tunick, members of the Arts Council of the Conejo Valley Board of Directors.

Tom Gamache of Calabasas will feature a series of photographs including Pink Cadillac.  Gamache is a well-known photographer who is active in the Thousand Oaks Art Association.  “Tom has done a great deal of work for the Santa Monica Mountains Conservatory, and we are pleased to present his unique photographs,” says Johnson.

Rachel Sylvers will debut her work, including the pastel “Not All the Leaves are Brown”. “We’re delighted to show Rachel’s pastels for the very first time,” says Tunick.   “This is part of our mission with exhibitions at the Galleria – providing new opportunities for local artists.”

The Arts Council for the Conejo Valley (ACCV) was established in 1969.  During its over four decade span, the ACCV has gone through extensive changes in its programs and services.  Established as a regional Federation of Arts organization that was formed to promote the community’s cultural development, the ACCV has evolved into a membership support agency that also delivers and co-sponsors many cultural programs.  The “voice of the arts”, the ACCV provides services to its member organizations that include marketing, technical assistance workshops, and lowered rent at the Hillcrest Center for the Arts.  The ACCV has a history of successful partnership in the community.  It has joined forces and worked toward a common goal with three major partners – the City of Thousand Oaks, the Conejo Recreation and Park District, and the Conejo Valley Unified School District.  The ACCV, in collaboration with Art Trek, created the Conejo Cottontail Project to promote public art throughout the community.

The Galleria is opened during business hours, evenings and weekends and is free to the public.  The Artists Reception is also a free event.  For information visit www.conejoarts.com.
