A LIVESTREAM COMMUNITY EVENT FEATURING A SHORT PLAY ABOUT SELF-HARM WITH LIVE DEBRIEF DISCUSSION FROM MENTAL HEALTH PROFESSIONALS

VENTURA COUNTY, CA BRITE, in collaboration with Give An Hour, Hasty Storytelling, and the Hillcrest Center for the Arts, presents a livestream community event focusing on mental health and wellbeing. The two-part event will consist of a short play, “Knock Knock,” and then a panel of mental health professionals who will take live questions from those who tune in. This free livestream event is accessible from your computer, phone, tablet, or iPad, and will occur on Thursday, July 16, at 7:30pm.

About the event: BRITE CONNECTIONS – A livestream community event featuring a short play about self-harm and discussion with mental health professionals. Content Warning/Trigger Warning: Self harm, cutting (though never depicted physically.) Content may not be suitable for viewers under 13 or those sensitive to aforementioned topics. Megan Ragone, playwright from Moorpark College, wrote and directed “Knock Knock,” the short play to be performed. “Knock Knock” focuses on the concept of self-harm and ways to help someone in mental distress. Ragone, an employee of the Hillcrest Center for the Arts in Thousand Oaks, CA, uses theatre arts to communicate important and, at times, difficult-to-discuss concepts to engage and educate the community. After the play, a panel of Mental Health Professionals will take questions live from Facebook, sharing resources and suggestions for giving and receiving support. The panel includes Evan Simmons, L.M.F.T, Stephanie R. Bien, L.M.F.T, L.P.C.C, and Kirsti V. Thompson, director at Give an Hour.
