This innovative program offers concrete tools and answers key questions like “What can I do if someone is in crisis?” “How do I approach someone in distress?” “What do I say?” “How can I help?” “Where can someone find help?”
You will learn:
- About common mental health and substance use disorders
- Warning signs and symptoms of mental health problems
- Potential risk factors
- Local resources and supports
- A five step action plan:
- Assess for risk of suicide or harm
- Listen Non-judgmentally
- Give reassurance and information
- Encourage appropriate professional help
- Encourage self-help and other support strategies
