    Channel Island Maritime Museum’s Speakers Series: International Seakeeper’s Society

    Wednesday July 19  6:30 – SPEAKER SERIES EXPLORES INTERNATIONAL SEAKEEPER’S SOCIETY  

    The Channel Islands Maritime Museum presents “International SeaKeepers Society: Drifters to Shark Tagging: Private Vessels Working with Scientific Projects! ”, with Captain Tom Peterson. The Society was created to match yachts their owners with scientific programs, to promote the continued protection of the Oceans around the world. Learn about projects and adventures on the water, including shark tagging, underwater DNA collecting, and the deployments of drifters. Along with NOAA, major universities, and other Oceanic groups, SeaKeepers has contributed millions of dollars toward marine research. Captain Tom Petersen is a USCG licensed captain with over 100,000 miles logged cruising around the world. Captain Tom works alongside his wife at Valkyrie Yacht Sales based in Channel Islands Harbor. He is also a long-time PADI Scuba Instructor and a member of the Platinum Pro 5000 Hall of Fame.    

    Speaker Series is a lecture series held every third Wednesday at the Channel Islands Maritime Museum. Refreshments are served at 6:30 pm and the lecture begins at 7:00 pm. The Museum is located in Oxnard’s Channel Islands Harbor at 3900 Bluefin Circle. CIMM is open Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 10 am – 4 pm, Sundays from 12 pm – 4 pm; Tuesdays and Wednesdays are open for reserved group tours and private member events. Explore galleries full of rare and beautiful maritime paintings dating back to the 1600’s, more than sixty world-class models of historic ships, rotating thematic fine arts exhibitions, and interactive exhibits that encourage visitors to expand their horizons about  everything maritime. Be sure to visit the gift shop. CIMMM entry is $7 for adults, $5 seniors and active military with ID, $3 children (ages 6-17), and free for members and children under 6.
