    Jewel of the Nile (VIRTUAL)

In this virtual class we will be looking at the artistic legacy of ancient Egypt, one of the most fascinating and mysterious of all the ancient cultures. First we will look at the history and mythology of ancient Egypt. Then we will be discussing elements that make Egyptian style so distinct and recognizable. In our third lecture we will be ready to explore Egyptian temples at the sites of Karnak and Luxor. Finally, we will turn to the monuments built under some of the most famous pharaohs of all time including: Hatshepsut, one of the only female pharaohs, Akhenaten called the heretic pharaoh because he transformed Egypt in to a monotheistic state, and Tutankhamun, the boy king whose grave goods still astound us today with their luxury and opulence.
