CAMARILLO, Calif.– The Economic Development Collaborative (EDC) will host its 23rd Annual Meeting, Thursday, Januay 16, 2020, 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Hyatt Regency Westlake, 880 S. Westlake Blvd., Westlake. The meeting will include a panel of economic experts discussing the theme, “Facing the Future: Reimagining the Path to Economic Inclusion and Prosperity.” Included in the panel are Erick Went, CEO/Co-Founder, Matter Labs; Joseph Briglio, Planning Manager, City of Happy Valley; and Joslyn B. Stuart, Esq., Partner, The Small Business Law Firm.
“Our panel will explore why workers and businesses come to our region, why some leave and what opportunities might we foster to help build a more inclusive, sustainable economy to support quality of life for all segments of our population,” notes Bruce Stenslie, president and CEO of EDC.
Passionate about distilling complex business problems down to their practical essence, Went focuses on implementing practical applications of emerging technologies to help create competitive advantages for organizations ranging from Fortune 100 companies to early stage startups. Partnering with universities and venture-backed startups, Went develops forward-thinking scenarios and roadmaps that help to protect, project and expand the scope of a company’s intellectual property claims and long-term competitiveness. He has experience working with global leaders on corporate strategies and transformation, and often acts as interim chief technology officer and chief innovations officer at multi-million-dollar enterprises.
As planning manager for the City of Happy Valley, Oregon’s fastest growing city, Briglio leads the daily planning efforts for addressing the challenge of balancing fast-moving growth with sustainable development practices. With than16 years working in local government, he has managed affordable housing programs, environmental sustainability initiatives, a high-tech business incubator, as well as served in several urban planning roles. He holds an M.P.A. from the University of Southern California and a B.A. in environmental studies and urban planning from Sonoma State University. In addition to his experience at the local level, Briglio has also worked as the regional affairs officer and project manager for the Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG) where he partnered with dozens of municipalities to create multi-jurisdictional plans and policies that tackle major issues such as, housing, transportation, economic development, sustainability and post-disaster recovery.
Stuart is a partner at The Small Business Law Firm, P.C. in Thousand Oaks where she specializes in the representation of small business owners. She practices both transactional law and litigation, helping to navigate her small business clients through today’s complex legal world. Stuart received her undergraduate degree from the University of California, Berkeley and her juris doctorate from Loyola Law School. During law school, Joslyn worked as an intern for the Honorable Judge Arthur Alarcon of the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals. She has a diverse background in law, business and real estate. Prior to joining The Small Business Law Firm in 2013, she worked as a litigation associate, focusing primarily on insurance defense litigation. Additionally, she has developed, patented and marketed her own product for the juvenile products marketplace.
