    “EMPOWERED” – A Women’s Safety Forum

    0

The Thousand Oaks Police Department will present “Empowered, a Women’s Safety Forum,” on September 6 at California Lutheran University, in support of the Police Department’s core mission in protecting the community.

In collaboration with other community partners, the Police Department will be providing this free women’s safety forum to members of the community. One way for us to communicate is through informational forums. These forums forge community partnerships and focus on particular issues, providing information and education to the citizens about ways to protect themselves.

The focus of this forum will include ways to raise awareness and minimize the risk of date related violence, identify the signs and patterns of an abusive relationship, understand the invisible epidemic of domestic violence, identify ways to avoid danger, utilize community resources to prevent or escape a violent relationship, and how to maintain healthy relationships.

A number of dynamic speakers will focus on encouraging empowerment from a variety of disciplines. Speakers will feature Maureen Shea “The Real Million Dollar Baby,” a professional boxer; Senior Deputy Frances Saleh, a Detective with the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office; Dina Zuhric and Rachael Watkins, from the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office Crime Victims’ Assistance Unit; and Erik Nasarenko, a Senior Deputy District Attorney from the Sexual Assault Unit. These speakers have a desire to educate and inform young women to take charge of their overall personal safety.

Additionally, there will be a number of resource tables hosted by community organizations that will be available to provide educational materials and resources to attendees.

To make a reservation to attend this event or for additional details, please contact Senior Deputy Damian Alvarez at [email protected].

The Thousand Oaks Police Department is grateful for the support of the following organizations to present this meaningful community presentation: Thousand Oaks Police Charitable Foundation (T.O.P.C.F.), a non-profit organization which helps raise funds to support community, youth, and volunteer programs for the Police Department; California Lutheran University; and area community sponsors.
