SANTA PAULA, CA – Who are you? That’s the question that artists were asked to consider for the Santa Paula Art Museum’s upcoming exhibition entitled “I Am Me: Artists’ Self-Portraits” opening Saturday, February 2, 2019. That same question will be asked of museum visitors as they view the 39 self-portraits on display and participate in the exhibition through interactive art-making activities. I Am Me will open with a premiere party on Saturday, February 2, 2019, from 4:00pm to 6:00pm. Admission to the premiere is $10.00 for museum members and $15.00 for non-members.

The Santa Paula Art Museum was thrilled by the response that its call for self-portraits garnered from artists across the state working in a wide variety of media including painting, drawing, sculpture, digital illustration, collage, photography, mixed media, and more. “We are particularly excited about the genre of self-portraiture because it is so personal to each artist and we hope it will allow museum visitors to connect with the art on a really personal level as well,” says the Museum’s Director of Marketing, Julie Cluster. “The Santa Paula Art Museum isn’t just a place to learn about art made by others. We want each of our guests to be inspired to create something of their own.” That is why the exhibit will include several opportunities for visitors to self-reflect and to make their own self-portrait to be added to the exhibition with tips and tools provided.

I Am Me: Artists’ Self-Portraits will feature art by Nathan Asplund, Jenna Bao, Brandin Baron, Pamela Benham, Janet Black, L.T.
