If It is Free-Would You Do It? | A Question from AAA and the Simi Valley Police Department

    Protect your car from thieves!

On September 26, 2018, AAA will be providing a FREE Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) etching event for car owners. AAA Members and the general public that participate in this event are helping to keep their car from being stolen.

Etching the VIN onto the vehicle windows is a preventative step to prevent vehicle thefts. It is difficult to resell or unload a stolen vehicle with the VIN etched on the windows. VIN etching will deter thieves from targeting your car and can also help law enforcement in the recovery of your vehicle if it is stolen.

VIN-etching usually costs $200-$400. At this event, just sign in with AAA, show your current vehicle registration and/or proof of ownership. You will also be required to sign a consent and release form. A team from AAA will use a piece of specialized blue tape and acid wash to etch your vehicle identification number onto your windows.

*”Classic cars” that do not have a 17-d igit VIN cannot participate.

This event is being hosted by the Simi Valley Police Department, the Automobile Club of Southern California Simi Valley Branch (AAA), the Ventura Auto Theft Task Force (VENCATT), and the National Insurance Crime Bureau.

    When: Wednesday, September 26, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
