Labor Day Harvest

As our nation is increasingly divided and polarized, over 200 people from diverse faith traditions are joining together this Labor Day to promote community, generosity and tolerance by serving together on the Abundant Table Farm, an organic farm in Camarillo. 

The list of sponsors reflects the widespread desire of local residents and faith communities to promote a spirit of compassion and collaboration:  Bahá’ís of Los Angeles County Southwest, California Lutheran University, the Episcopal Church, the Islamic Center of Conejo Valley, St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church Youth Ministry, Temple Ner Ami, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Camarillo Stake, the Ventura County Center for Spiritual Living, the Ventura County Interfaith Community and community member, Meenal Kelkar.

 The 4^th annual Labor Day Harvest will take place on Monday, Sept. 2 from 9am -1pm at the Abundant Table Farm located at 1012 W. Ventura Blvd. in Camarillo.  

People from all faiths and no faith are welcome to join in harvesting fresh vegetables for local food pantries and helping to tend the non-profit organic farm.  Lunch and live music by the youth band Guys in Ties will follow the field work.   Our intention is to join together as neighbors to create positive relationships in our community through service, generosity and gratitude for our shared earth and its bounty.  We also hope to increase appreciation for farm workers, upon whose labor we all depend.

Participants are encouraged to bring hats, sunscreen, water, gardening gloves and a picnic blanket or lawn chair for the post-harvest festival.  The suggested donation for lunch is $10.
