The Silverstrand Open Charity Putt Putt golf tournament is a one-of-a-kind event that brings together community, creativity, and charity! Started in 2009 with the goal of harnessing the creative energy and giving the capacity of a neighborhood to highlight and support one different charity each year. This year the charity is CAREGIVERS: Volunteers Assisting the Elderly.

Tournament Founder Jason Hodge remarked that the event was deliberately designed around the community.  “The golf tournament is only possible with the enthusiastic support of the local neighborhood, “Hodge said.  “Each hole is hosted and designed by individual residents in their yard, driveway, or even living room! This brings out the creative side of our community and helps neighbors get to know one another.”

Registration begins at noon at Big Daddy O’s, 2333 Roosevelt Blvd. in Silverstrand.  Player spots are $25 per person, which includes all equipment, raffle ticket and food.  Kids play for free.  Shotgun Start at 12:30 p.m.

SCAN Health Plan immediately stepped forward as the Presenting Sponsor, along with The Beachcomber Tavern, Lynn and Gary Jacobs, Searle Creativity, ARTZworks.com Gallery and Workshop, Fiona Ma, Ruben Duran, Brusco Tug and Barge, and Tractide.

“We could not be more pleased to partner with Caregivers this year,” Hodge added. “The ethos of community is truly represented in Caregivers.”

Founded in 1984, CAREGIVERS is one of the original pilot programs for volunteer caregiving — in the nation! Close to 500 frail, homebound seniors in Ventura County are able to continue living independently thanks to the generosity of volunteers who help each week with grocery shopping, friendly visits and a ride to the doctor.  CAREGIVERS also boasts more than 450 student alumni who have served seniors through our Building Bridges Inter-generational Program over the years. Today, more than 600 programs are emulating this successful community model throughout the United States.
