Ojai Studio Artists

“My mother bought me a pretty blue velvet-and-lace dress for my fifth birthday,” says fashion portrait artist Leslie Plimpton. “I have been interested in fashion ever since.”  Her work is currently on display at the Ventura County Museum in two separate shows: Mending the Divide, an Ojai Studio Artists exhibit, and Legacy: Seven Decades of Ventura College Art. Her portraits, done in oil, acrylics and mixed media often contain real fabric because “I like the three dimensionality.”

            At her Oak View studio, Leslie is creating a series of portraits of fashion icons, including Coco Chanel, Karl Lagerfeld and Ralph Lauren. Another subject, not usually thought of in the world of fashion, is a multi-image print of Marie Antoinette for a March show at Gallery 113 in Santa Barbara. “She was a fashion trend setter,” Leslie explains.

            A new member of Ojai Studio Artists, Leslie will open her studio to the public on March 14 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. as part of OSA’s Second Saturday Tour series.
