Monday October 29: WHAT WILL PEOPLE SAY
    (Hva Vil Folk Si)
    Norway 2018 Drama NR 1hr 46minutes
In Norwegian and Urdu with English Subtitles
Sixteen-year-old Nisha (Maria Mozhdah) lives a double life. When out with her friends, she’s a regular Norwegian teenager. At home with her family, she is the perfect Pakistani daughter. But when her father (Adil Hussain) catches her alone with her boyfriend, Nisha’s two worlds brutally collide. To set an example and escape the judgment of their peers, Nisha’s parents send her to live with extended family in a small town in Pakistan. There, in an unfamiliar country surrounded by people she barely knows, Nisha must adapt to a rigid culture that denies her the freedoms she once enjoyed. Winner of Audience Awards at AFI Fest and the Les Arcs European Film Festival, What Will People Say is a tense and moving drama about women’s rights, immigrant identity, and familial duties. Based on director Iram Haq’s own experiences as a young Pakistani woman in Norway, it features an astounding debut by 18-year-old Mozhdah and a nuanced performance by veteran actor Hussain (Life of Pi).

    November 5 THE LAST SUIT
    (El Ultimo Traje)
    Argentina 1hr32min Drama NR
In Spanish, Yiddish, German and Polish with English Subtitles
At 88, Abraham Bursztein is seeing his place in the world rapidly disappear. His kids have sold his Buenos Aires residence, set him up to move to a retirement home, and disagree on how to handle his fading health. But Abraham survived the Holocaust, made a successful life in a foreign land, and isn’t about to quietly fade away. Instead, he plots a secret one-way trip to Poland, where he plans to find the Christian friend who saved him from certain death at the end of World War II, and to keep his promise to return one day. Comedic and poignant in equal measure, from Argentina to Spain, across Germany and finally to Poland, Abraham is on his own but also accompanied by the characters he meets along the way, who both help him and need his help. A standout among these is the iconic Spanish actress Angela Molina, as the proprietor of the Madrid hotel where he stays. With its klezmer-driven score, evocative cinematography and fleet pacing, THE LAST SUIT approaches its weighty themes with a light touch that illuminates a serious story.
    November 19 MUSEO
    (Museum)
    Mexico 2hr8min Drama NR
    In Spanish with English Subtitles
Well into their 30s, Juan Nuñez and Benjamín Wilson still can’t seem to finish veterinary school or leave their parents’ homes. Instead, they wallow in comfortable limbo in the district of Satelite, Mexico City’s version of an American suburb. On a fateful Christmas Eve, however, they decide it’s finally time to distinguish themselves by executing the most infamous cultural artifacts heist in all of Mexican history.Excusing themselves from the traditional family dinners and seizing on the holiday’s lax security – not to mention the sheer improbability of their crime – they loot Mexico’s iconic National Anthropology Museum of its most precious pieces and embark upon a misadventure that will forever change their lives.
The magnitude of the theft exceeds the amateur thieves’ expectations, and by the very next morning they realize, too late, the full scope and implications of their actions. Stumbling through the next steps of their ill-conceived plan, they leave everything behind and set off on a journey that takes them from the Mayan ruins of Palenque to the decadent underworld of Acapulco Bay in a futile effort to fence treasures so valuable and recognizable that no one dares acquire them.
Museo is Sponsored by Drs Jesus and Terry Gonzalez
