Romantic Comedy
Almost Maine
By John Cariani
Directed by Stephanie Coltrin
Date TBA

A romantic comedy about love and loss that has broken box office records and received critical acclaim throughout the nation. The story unfolds through a series of nine vignettes, all of which take place on a magical midwinter night when the citizens of Almost – a place too disorganized to be called a town and too populated to be a wilderness – discover the life-altering power of the human heart. Strangers become friends, friends become lovers, and lovers turn into strangers.

“Poignant and witty. Its charm is real.” New York Daily News

“A mega-hit that is unabashedly unhip. The show offers a sweetness and decency that’s become rare at the theatre…a welcome breath of fresh air.” New York Post

AUDIENCE ADVISORY: Recommended for high school and up.

World Premiere Run
“A” Train
Written and Performed by Annie Torsiglieri
Original Music by Brad Carroll
Directed by Risa Brainin
Date TBA

Told with humor, insight and a few choice expletives, this courageous play, based on a true story, follows a family as they learn to accept the unexpected and live in the moment, meeting the joys and hardships of raising a child with autism. The play is performed by Broadway veteran Annie Torsiglieri and was developed in the Launch Pad program at UCSB. We are honored to present the first full-length regional run.

“Simply the best solo show and quite likely the best original play of any kind to come out of Santa Barbara this decade…the emotional impact cannot be overstated.” The Independent

AUDIENCE ADVISORY: Recommended for mature audiences due to adult content and strong language.

Murder Mystery Spoof
Alfred Hitchcock’s The 39 Steps
By Patrick Barlow
Based on the 1915 Novel by John Buchan and the 1935 Film by Alfred Hitchcock
Directed by James O’Neil
Date TBA

Funny and fast-paced, this “whodunit” is a hilarious mix of film noir and a juicy spy novel, with a little Monty Python thrown in for good measure. Alfred Hitchcock’s The 39 Steps is a two-time Tony and Drama Desk Award-winning treat packed with nonstop laughs, over 150 zany characters (played by a ridiculously talented cast of four), mistaken identities, mishaps, an onstage plane crash, and good old-fashioned romance. Rubicon company member Joseph Fuqua stars as the dashing and debonair Richard Hanney.

“A perfect soufflé… fast and frothy, performed by a cast of four that seems like a cast of thousands…theatre at its finest.” New York Times

AUDIENCE ADVISORY: Recommended for middle school and older.
