Spring Equinox Nature Hike at Lake Casitas

Event Details

Celebrate the Spring Equinox with Ojai native plant guide Lanny Kaufer enjoying some botanizing, sightseeing, and nature exploration on the East Shore Trail at beautiful Lake Casitas from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 19. Hikers can expect to find edible and medicinal wild plants, see the waterbirds, and enjoy the scenery. The group will stop for lunch on the trail and return to the trail head by 2:00 p.m.

Kaufer will discuss and demonstrate the many ways that wild plants have been used, and continue to be used, by Native Americans, herbalists, foragers, campers and gardeners for food, medicine, survival, and many other uses.

If there is sufficient interest, Kaufer’s Herb Walks program will introduce a new option for children ages 5-12: a kid-friendly companion hike and nature experience led by Heather King-Grant of Ventura Wild.

To register for the Nature Hike, visit www.HerbWalks.com or call 805-646-6281. No prepayment is required. Registrants will receive a confirmation email several days before with all necessary info. The cost is $25 for adults, $20 for seniors 62-and-older, and $15 for students 13-18. Kids 5-12 can go free, one per adult, by prior arrangement or choose to sign up for the Ventura Wild companion hike. Participants under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or adult guardian. No dogs or smoking, please.
