    Free six-session workshop to provide tools to manage and live well with diabetes

    Oxnard, CA – (July 12, 2018) – Following the popularity of our Spring Diabetes Empowerment Education Program (DEEP), Dignity Health – St. John’s Regional Medical Center (SJRMC), invites community members to this Summer’s series. Participants will learn how to enhance their lifestyle to promote a healthier diet, while incorporating physical activity, in addition to improving problem-solving and coping skills. Register now for this free learning experience!

    DEEP is a series of six free, two-hour classes tailored to provide community members with the tools to manage and live well with pre-diabetes and diabetes. The program will be held at St. John’s Regional Medical Center (1600 N. Rose Ave. in Oxnard), in Conference Room 1 on the Garden Level, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on the following Thursdays:

    • August 2 • August 23
    • August 9 • August 30
    • August 16 • September 6

    “Developed by our team of experts, DEEP is tailored and driven to meet the participants’ needs by empowering them with tools to manage this chronic disease,” said Suzanne Soppe, RSM, Health Educator at St. John’s Regional Medical Center. “This series is a great step for anyone living with diabetes, who is seeking to develop healthy behaviors.”

    During these free classes, individuals will learn about:

    • Understanding how diabetes affects the human body

    • Diabetes risk factors and prevention of complications

    • Meal planning and exercise

    • Medications and talking with your health care team

    • Coping with emotions and stress

    DEEP is based on national diabetes care and diabetes self-management education recommendations and guidelines.
