Stand Up Comedy on the Hill

Dear Patron of Standup Comedy on the Hill,

We are sad to announce that we are putting Standup Comedy on the Hill on hold until we can safely reopen inside at the Hillcrest Center for the Arts. We have tried presenting this program both virtually via Zoom and YouTube Live and at drive-in events. Most recently, with the State of California allowing outside performances, we had hoped to move the series outdoor to a public site. Unfortunately, there are no public sites that will allow this program to operate and we also no longer have access to a drive-in site. In addition, our patio stage is in use as a Covid-19 Safety Filming Stage for our current youth production of Guys and Dolls, Jr.

As I write this email, I have read that the State of California has announced that limited indoor live performance will be allowed starting April 15 and the amount of audience for outdoor events will be increasing. Given that, we may be able to move reopen with a reduced capacity for indoor seating or be able to reinstall our patio stage and move the series back up here possibly by May.

For now, the amount of ticket sales under the Zoom/YouTube model is not sufficient for our producer, Jason Love, to continue to book the high quality comedians that he has been able to find for our series. Neither Jason nor the Hillcrest Center for the Arts has a desire to lower the quality of the series and so we have decided to put the program on hold for now.

We truly hope we can reopen in some format as soon as May or June. In the meantime, many commercial establishments (restaurants and bars) seem to be have been able to reopen their comedy nights and Jason Love continues to provide weekly virtual comedy shows. Just visit his site to find out about his shows and where he is performing at commercial establishments. www.JasonLove.com
