    Thousand Oaks Police to Present Women’s Safety Forum

One way for us to communicate is through informational forums. These forums allow the police department to focus on particular issues and provide education to the citizens on ways to protect themselves.

    drugs times; font-size: 14pt;”>In furtherance of our commitment to the community, the Thousand Oaks Police Department in collaboration with other community partners will be presenting a free women’s safety forum. The forum will take place on the campus of California Lutheran University in the Lundring Events Center, on October 11, 2014, from 12:00 pm until 4:00 pm.

    There will be a number of dynamic speakers including: Maureen Shea “The Real Million Dollar Baby”; a professional boxer, Dr. Margaret Allen; a Clinical Supervisor and Consultant with California Lutheran University, and Chad Basile; a self-defense expert will be among others who will educate and empower young women to take charge of their overall personal safety.

    The focus of this forum will include ways to raise awareness and minimize the risk of date related violence, identify the signs and patterns of an abusive relationship, understand the invisible epidemic of domestic violence, ways to stop an attacker and avoid danger, utilizing community resources to prevent or escape a violent relationship as well as maintaining healthy relationships.
    Additionally, there will be a number of resource tables hosted by community organizations that will be available to provide educational materials and resources to attendees.

    Thousand Oaks Police Department would like to thank the Thousand Oaks Police Charitable Foundation (TOPCF), a non-profit organization which helps raise funds to support community, youth, and volunteer programs for the Police Department; the speakers and California Lutheran University for donating a facility for this event.
