SOCIAL CONCERNS ACTION COMMITTEE of the UNIVERSALIST UNITARIAN CHURCH of SANTA PAULA, 740 E. Main St. INVITE YOU TO A SCREENING OF THE DOCUMENTARY FILM WALKING THE CAMINO: SIX WAYS TO SANTIAGO

    TUESDAY, JULY 24 6:30 PM

Walking the Camino: Six Ways to Santiago, a multiple award-winning documentary, follows modern day pilgrims as they walk the ancient road across 500 miles of Spain to Santiago. Have you thought of walking the Camino? At the height of its popularity, during the 11th and 12th Centuries, it’s believed 250,000 to 1 million pilgrims traveled the Camino each year. After completing the journey their sins were immediately forgiven. It is still popular today with everyone from atheists to Buddhists, seekers, college students, retired people and adventurers, to name a few.

The film is a visual delight as we follow a number of pilgrims through four of Spain’s scenic providences. We hear not only the pilgrims’ stories, their hopes and goals for the journey, their struggles with shoes and health issues, petty conflicts, but we are blown away as they experience humanity at its best. They are treated with love and caring, as if they were visiting angels, by the communities they pass through. They are often given food and shelter and they share the food they carry. You will enjoy their euphoria when they reach their journey’s end.

Jim Cole, our after-the-film-discussion facilitator, is considering making this journey with his wife and would like to share their interest with us.
