Unveiling of Westpark’s “Lion Bench” | Public Invited

    0

The City of Ventura’s Parks, Recreation & Community Partnerships department cordially invites the public to a ribbon-cutting ceremony to unveil Westpark’s new Lion Bench on Wednesday, October 11, at noon, at the Westpark Community Center located at 450 West Harrison Street.  This bench, generously donated by The Ventura Downtown Lion’s Club, will complement the Lion Drinking Fountain which was donated to the Westpark Community Center in 2016.

“Westpark youth are very excited about sitting on the new Lion Bench,” said Anita Diaz, Westpark Coordinator. “Its creative design will provide kids a fun place to rest after enjoying outdoor play.”

The Ventura Downtown Lions Club has been supporting the children of Ventura for the past 94 years through many avenues including fundraising projects, through the donation of funds for projects like the Lion Fountain and the Lion Bench at Westpark and the new Pediatric Eye Center to be established at the Ventura County Medical Center. The Lion’s donation of $41,675.28 will purchase a retinal imaging camera to screen babies for Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) as well as other needed equipment for the Ventura County Medical Center. The Ventura Downtown Lions Club also founded The Cottage Home in 1969-it’s the only foster home in the United States founded and supported by a local Lions Club.

“We thank the Ventura Downtown Lions Club for donating $5,000 to make the Lion Bench a reality,” stated Mario Robinson, Youth Programs Supervisor. “This is yet another great project that boosts pride in what Westpark stands for and offers; a safe place for young children to participate in educational, enrichment and sports activities while having fun.”

Westpark’s mission is to provide a variety of safe, educational and affordable youth programs and services that develop self-esteem, leadership, character development, sportsmanship and health and physical fitness.
