    Veterans Day Parade | City of Oxnard Honors And Celebrates Those Who Have Or Are Serving

    The community is invited to attend a free Veterans Day parade and ceremony to honor the sacrifices made by those who have served our country. This year’s event, on Saturday, November 11, 2017 will begin at 10 a.m. in front of Oxnard City Hall, 305 W. Third St., with a brief welcome by Mayor Tim Flynn, other Dignitaries, followed by the parade.

    The parade will extend down Third Street to B Street before ending at Plaza Park at approximately 11 a.m. Featured parade participants include the American Legion Riders Chapter 48, Oxnard Cub Scouts Pack 3251, Vietnam Veterans of Ventura County and the Hueneme High School NJROTC.

     

    The following streets will be closed from 8-11 a.m. for the parade:

    • Third Street from A to C streets
    • Fourth Street from A to C streets
    • B Street from Third to Fifth streets
    • North Fifth Street from B to C streets

     

     

    At 11:11 a.m., the ceremony will begin promptly at Plaza Park, 500 S. C St. This year’s special guest speakers are:

    ■    David Wilson who was assigned to the 101st Airborne Division at Fort Campbell, KY in January 1967 and part of Operation Eagle Thrust, the largest military airlift of its time to Vietnam; and

    ■    Doctor Robert “Bob” Hochman who was assigned to the military advisory command (MAC-V) medical corps as a combat surgeon in the Central Highlands of Vietnam in 1970-71.

    All county public transit operators including Gold Coast Transit District (GCTD), www.goldcoasttransit.org, and the Ventura County Transportation Commission (VCTC), www.goventura.org, will provide free bus rides on Nov. 11, to U.S. veterans who present valid military identification upon boarding. Valid identification includes veterans identification cards issued by the U.S. Department of Defense and Department of Veterans Affairs and the veterans designation listed on licenses/identification cards issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles. GCTD and VCTC buses will operate on their regular schedules during the holiday.
