The concert features piano solo works by American composers: Gershwin and Danielpour, the harbinger of Romantic Era: Beethoven, and the predominant composers of the Romantic Era: Chopin, Mendelssohn, Brahms, and Sibelius. Every pair in this program is an illustration of how repertoire of the same sort can be conveyed by composers of different eras and cultures, thus emphasizing the musical dialogue across time and space between the composers.
Award-winning pianist Dr. XIAO CHEN is actively engaged as both a soloist and
chamber musician throughout the U.S., China, and Europe. Her performances have been well received by many; Shanghai Youth Daily said “her energetic and
breathtaking performance impressed the audience”.
Dr. Chen is currently on faculty at Mount Saint Mary’s University, having served
as lecturer in Piano Performance at the University of California, Los Angeles
(UCLA) in 2019. She is the music director of Irvine Conservatory of Music,
a “Steinway Select School”, as well as the director of Irvine
