Everything Tasted GREAT at TASTE 2016

By Raven West

More than 300 connoisseurs of great food and drink enjoyed a sampling of the very best of Ventura’s eateries, wineries, breweries, distilled spirits and confectioners at this year’s TASTE event presented by the Ventura Chamber of Commerce.

Lines began to form early at the Museum of Ventura County in Downtown Ventura venue where more than 40 local restaurants were on hand to serve their finest culinary delights to a hungry crowd.

International delicacies from Greece, India and Italy were served by Lynn Mikelatos, owner of The Greek Mediterranean Restaurant; Indian selections were on hand from Himalaya owner Anup Rimal, while Hap Putnam, owner of Ventura NOW, served a delicious Italian dish of Chicken Penne.

The chefs from Pierpont Inn served Pork Tenderloin with Sweet Potato Mash and Petite Syrah Raspberry Reduction. Discovery delighted the guests with their goat-cheese-stuffed dates wrapped in bacon.

guestVentura Beach Marriott’s Master Chef Rick Rossingnol gave a cooking demonstration of their Chile Verde, which, according to Sous Chef Paul Bulgot, takes around two to three days to cook…and about three seconds to eat!

Four Brix, Plan B, and Labyrinth wineries poured their finest wine selections, while BJ’s and Surf Brewery served several styles of their signature beer. Channel Islands Distillery and Alquimia Organic Tequila were also on hand to share their most popular spirits.

What would a good meal be without dessert? Doug Rydbeck and Donna ZaZa, brought their handmade ice cream and fudge all the way from their store in Ojai!  There was a “bit’ o honey to sweeten up the night”…straight from the bee hives of Beekeeper Dave Mitchell of Blue Ridge Honey.

Between the eating and drinking, DMG Photobooth was snapping fun shots of the guests wearing weird get-ups, while everyone enjoyed the live entertainment performed by the band Rough Estimate.

Great entertainment pairs perfectly with great food, great drink and great company. It’s all about good TASTE!
