Explosion and fire at Ventura apartment

At 5:30am Saturday morning, diagnosis April 18th, Ventura City Fire personnel responded to a reported structure fire secondary to an explosion in an apartment building in the 6600 block of Telephone Rd. The first arriving engine company found an apartment with the front door and windows blown outward, and a dissipating light smoke within. It was quickly determined that any fire present had been extinguished by occupants using a dry chemical extinguisher, and the explosion was from an unknown cause. One of the occupants, with potential for serious injuries given his reported proximity to the explosion, fled the scene before arrival of first responders and remains unaccounted for.

The cause of the explosion is currently under investigation. No further details are being released, and no injuries have been reported, at the time of this release.
