(Virtual Only) Hueneme Beach Park, 550 E. Surfside Dr, Port Hueneme, California
The Families of Alaska Flight 261 will again honor their family members whose lives were lost on board Alaska Flight 261 on January 31, 2000. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s memorial will be held virtually.
The Families of Alaska Flight 261 are so grateful that the City of Port Hueneme has agreed to work with them to safely host a memorial at the monument site using a video stream to share the location’s beauty, and to continue with the memorial services for family members and colleagues at Alaska Air Group in Seattle, Washington. “Over the years, the Ventura County community has always been there to support us, and this year’s memorial service again shows us the compassion and caring by so many individuals and organizations.”
Included in this year’s memorial weekend will be:
- Saturday, January 30th
The annual cleaning of the Alaska Flight 261 Monument by members of the Port Hueneme community
- Sunday, January 31st
- Welcome by Anarudh Prasad, President of the Families of Alaska Flight 261
- Invocation by Ventura County Sheriff’s Department Chaplain Ron Matthews
- Welcome by Port Hueneme Mayor Steven Gama and his review on how volunteers in Port Hueneme care for the monument and surrounding beach every weekend
- The reading of the names of the flight crew and passengers on board AS261, and the laying of a rose on each AS261 monument plaque
The Families of Alaska Flight 261 thank the community of Port Hueneme and the volunteers who have stepped up to ensure the families and colleagues are able to honor their loved ones while not being able to be there in person.
