On Saturday, Habitat for Humanity of Ventura County broke ground for their final two homes of the “Trinity Lane Development” in Santa Paula. A total of eight homes will be built in the development, with four already occupied and the remainder due to be completed by March 2017. These homes are built by hard-working low-income families, volunteers, and members of the community. Before the buzzing of saws and pounding of hammers began, words of thanksgiving and celebration were shared by all who attended this milestone event.

Evangelina Media, mother of three including a two month old baby, comments about how overwhelmed she felt when her family had been selected.

“This is a new beginning for our family, especially the children. Our future home will be even more special thanks to the volunteers that donate their weekends to build with us out of the kindness of their hearts.” Evangelina Medina

The two families in need have partnered with Habitat for Humanity to build a place they can call home. Our future homeowners have started contributing their required 500 hours of ‘sweat equity’ as they help to build their home alongside volunteers. Once completed, each family will purchase their home from Habitat with an affordable mortgage. With Habitat’s help, these families can achieve the strength, stability and independence they need to build a better life for themselves and their families.

Following the ceremony, over 30 young professionals got straight to work on digging foundations and framing the two homes in progress on Trinity Lane. Habitat Young Professionals (HYP) is a new and diverse group of young professionals who share resources, time and talents to make a difference in our local community. HYP will be hosting its first Member Mixer July 20th at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore in Oxnard. For more information, please go to or email [email protected].

About Habitat for Humanity of Ventura County

Habitat for Humanity of Ventura County is a locally-run and locally-funded affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International. Over the past 30 years, 60 new home builds have provided homeownership opportunities for families in need and hundreds of homes have been repaired, providing a safe, clean, decent living environment for lower income homeowners.  The newer Preserve a Home program is being embraced by several cities and the County of Ventura as they see the positive impact Habitat has on families, neighborhoods and the community overall.  At Habitat for Humanity, we believe that everyone everywhere deserves a decent place to live. For Habitat’s new home program, low- to very-low income families are selected based on their need for housing, ability to repay an affordable mortgage, and willingness to partner with Habitat for Humanity.

We offer a “hand up”, not a hand out, empowering families who are willing to work hard to achieve their dream of homeownership.  Each Habitat for Humanity homeowner invests hundreds of hours to help build their home, and then purchases it with an affordable mortgage. Habitat currently has enough donated properties to build 28 decent homes for families in Ventura County.
