    Firearms arrest in Ventura

Ventura County Sheriff – Incident Press Release

On April 30, 2021, detectives assigned to the Sheriff’s Gang Unit contacted and arrested Raymond Velasco from Ventura for possession of a stolen firearm and possession of an assault weapon.

In April 2021, detectives obtained information indicating Velasco was in possession of unlawfully obtained firearms and ammunition.  Detectives found Velasco was currently on active Ventura County probation and his previous felony convictions prohibited him from owning and or possessing any firearms or ammunition.

On April 30, 2021, detectives conducted surveillance at Velasco’s residence located in the 1200 Block of Winford Avenue in Ventura.  Detectives contacted Velasco and detained him to invoke the terms of his probation.  During a search of Velasco’s property at the residence, detectives located a loaded Glock firearm.  A records query of the firearm’s serial number revealed it had been reported stolen from the City of Ventura.  Detectives also located a loaded short-barreled AR-15 style rifle that did not have a serial number as required per the California Department of Justice.  Additionally, the rifle had characteristics which classify it as an assault weapon per state law.

Based on the investigation, Velasco was arrested for various firearms and ammunition possession charges and booked at the Pre-Trial Detention Facility.  Velasco is currently awaiting court proceedings.
