    Fisherman’s Wharf Development Session

    News Release

The Fisherman’s Wharf Development Session workshop will now be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 19, 2022, at the Oxnard Performing Arts Center, located at 800 Hobson Way, Oxnard, CA 93030.

Three proposed projects for the development of Fisherman’s Wharf at Channel Islands Harbor will be on display at a public workshop hosted by the Ventura County Harbor Department.

Online registration for the event can be found here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/fishermans-wharf-public-workshop-tickets-415615666647 Pre-registration is for planning purposes and is not a requirement for attendance.

The public workshop is being held following a Request for Proposals (RFP) period that closed July 7th, 2022. The Harbor Department received four RFPs from developers. Three of the proposals were recommended by a Harbor Advisory Committee to move forward to the public workshop portion of the process. The proposals for Fisherman’s Wharf include:

A market-anchored lifestyle retail center. The proposal includes a specialty grocery store, retail, restaurants, playground, water feature, and amphitheater.
A mixed-land use project, including commercial, retail, and housing. The proposal includes a tenant mix offering a variety of new dining, entertainment and shopping experiences, a boutique hotel, activated community spaces, and apartments.
A visitor-serving strawberry-themed village. The village would offer free entry to shops, restaurants, rides, and activities that celebrate the strawberry.

Representatives from each proposed development will be available to display their proposal and answer any questions attendees might have.

“We couldn’t be more excited to have the developers meet the community face-to-face and listen to feedback and ideas,” said Michael Tripp, Harbor Department Director. “Being at this stage of the process means we are getting one step closer to making real progress at Fisherman’s Wharf.”

Director Tripp said following the workshop, the developers will have an opportunity to consider recommendations from the public, Harbor Department, and Harbor Advisory Committee to make modifications to the project with the input received.

Once the revised proposals are received, the Harbor Department may recommend to the Board of Supervisors to enter into an Exclusive Right to Negotiate with a developer.

The Channel Islands Neighborhood Council is an all-volunteer organization representing the waterfront communities of Mandalay Bay, Harbour Island, Westport, and Seabridge. The Neighborhood Council program was created by the Oxnard City Council to effectively involve members of our communities in our local government decision making process.

I noticed only a few neighborhoods mentioned above too. This Channel Islands Harbor and Oxnard’s Fisherman’s Wharf is ALL PUBLIC LAND. The whole state of voters are the STAKEHOLDERS. So why such little advertising and completely ignoring the rest of this county? Why would county and developers do this to the true Stakeholders? This harbor is paid for and Cal State CI Boating Center with tax dollars and Boater fuel dollars spent. Word needs to get out to ALL and our Boaters in our 9 Marinas and it’s not done.

The meeting had a great turnout but mostly quiet. The Strawberry Village guys are very personable, Pacific group FAILED TO MENTION APARTMENTS, a bit sneaky and the other group is in litigation in NY, but their plan was doable.

Thank you to Channel Islands Harbor Research for distinguishing jurisdiction and vetting it with the CCC, presented to all City of Oxnard entities and organizations involved in oversight of Oxnard’s Fisherman’s Wharf. Channel Islands Harbor is Held In Public Trust and MANAGED by Ventura County.
    P.S. I found no CEQA on Oxnard’s Fisherman’s Wharf.
