Advanced metering infrastructure

To support sustainability efforts, agricultural well facilities requiring flowmeters must install AMI to automatically track and report water extractions by Dec. 31, 2018. (Pumpers who may need additional time for installation due to good cause can apply to the executive officer for an extension.)

Applications are now being accepted for incentive rebates to offset installation costs through an innovation grant awarded to The Nature Conservancy. To be eligible, each well must be in compliance with all agency regulations, including calibration, and have no outstanding surcharges, fees or fines. The first 100 qualified applicants can reserve a $2,500 rebate per well. Since the next round of applicants will receive lower rebate amounts, well operators should consider applying as soon as possible.

As detailed in the ordinance and resolution, pumpers may either arrange installation through Ranch Systems, vendor for the AMI project, or demonstrate that existing or proposed AMI products provided by another supplier meet the GMA’s technical specifications.

In addition to automatic and electronic reporting of water extractions, other elective AMI components can improve irrigation efficiencies through early detection of leaks in the distribution system and by optimizing use of common agricultural sensors (e.g. soil moisture, humidity, and water level sensors). Ranch Systems will discuss these options at the workshop.

Water market pilot – Oxnard Basin

The workshop will also provide additional information about how to participate in the upcoming Water Market pilot program. The pilot is open to any well in the Oxnard Basin that is in compliance with all agency regulations. Pilot participants who are among the first 100 to apply for an AMI incentive rebate can receive an additional $1,500 rebate.
