Dignity Health St. John’s Pleasant Valley Hospital and St. John’s Regional Medical Center are offering a free six-session workshop for local individuals living with chronic health conditions. The Chronic Disease Self-Management workshop series will provide attendees with the tools needed to personalized and manage the challenges of living with a chronic health condition(s).
This six-week class series will take place on Tuesday, January 19, 26; February 2, 9, 16, and 23 from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the San Miguel room at the Padre Serra Parish (5205 Upland Rd. in Camarillo). The series will specifically target numerous chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, cancer and more.
The program is customized to help individuals with long-term health conditions take control of their lives by addressing:
• Symptom management
• Exercise necessary to maintain or improve strength, flexibility and endurance
• Techniques to cope with fatigue, pain and isolation
• Effective communication with family, friends and health professionals
• Nutrition
• Management of Emotions
• Appropriate use of medications
“This interactive workshop series is an opportunity for community members to feel empowered to take charge of their health by learning how to self-manage chronic disease conditions,” said Sr. Suzanne Soppe, Community Educator, St. John’s Pleasant Valley Hospital and St. John’s Regional Medical Center. “Our goal is to show individuals that having a chronic disease is not a death sentence, on the contrary with the right tools, persons can live a healthier life.”
To receive the maximum benefits from the educational series, participants should plan to attend all six sessions. Space is limited; reservations for the program are accepted through Wednesday, January 13. Participants need only register once.
