Getting Tipsy on Laughter

James Frey’s “Corks -n-Comedy Night” at the Tasting Room at River Ridge features a stellar line-up of professional comedians who bring their unique brand of humor to Oxnard the third Saturday of the month.

On warmer nights, the show is staged outside the River Ridge Golf Course clubhouse. Due to the chillier weather, Saturday night’s performances were held inside, which provided a closer and more intimate environment that served to enhance the interactive participation between the comedians and the audience, who were totally engaged from the first performer to the last.

Host James Frey kicked off the show with a short bit about his very tall frame and long hair, then introduced each comedian performing that evening. Saturday’s line-up featured Chris Cope, Keon Polee, Nick Hoff and Ryan Budds.

The comedian’s bits were laugh-out-loud funny, without the need to resort to crude content, which resonated with the slightly more mature audience.

Tickets start at a very reasonable $5 a person ($7 at the door) and include a selection of wines for tasting and additional purchase. There is also a Tapas menu to pair with the wine.

Really too bad the Wine Tasting at River Ridge Gold Course closed suddenly last October. There were some really great events for the community.
